How you will Make an Impact
As a lawyer in the Indirect Tax team, you will be responsible for advising on indirect tax laws, with a particular emphasis on Value Added Tax (VAT) as well as other indirect taxes and reporting requirements including CESOP, customs and excise duties, environmental taxes and gaming tax.
Your main responsibilities would include:
- Advising clients on a wide range of indirect taxes with particular reference to local and EU VAT / other indirect tax legislation, and relevant case law, in particular that of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU)
- Reviewing and analyzing contractual agreements from an indirect tax law perspective
- Consulting and proactively understanding client needs and working with them to develop relevant and valuable solutions
- Assisting on the indirect tax component of due diligence engagements on transactions that involve mergers and acquisitions
- Proactively assisting in day-to-day client requests, including liaising with the Malta Tax and Customs Administration to discuss client issues and supporting with tax controversy such as VAT audits, enquiries and assessments – including dispute resolution
- Reinforcing technical competence by keeping up-to-date on indirect tax legislative changes, developments and trends, and applying this to client situations
- Supporting business development efforts including eminence-building initiatives, and participating in client meetings and proposals
Let’ s Talk About You
Your Specialized skills:
- Be in possession of a university degree in Law
- Have excellent writing skills and a command of the English language
- Have a strong professional interest in VAT and other indirect taxes
- A post-graduate tax qualification and/or willingness to read for the EU VAT module of the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT), which will be supported by Deloitte
- Working experience in tax would be considered an asset
